Prince George’s County woman claims Hot 5s Hot Streak game’s top prize
A 22-year-old nurse who experienced a rare urge to play a Maryland Lottery scratch-off took action and enjoyed a scorching $50,000 win. The Hot 5s Hot Streak instant ticket she selected gave her its top prize.
Her winning story started when the lucky Riverdale woman pulled into Super Convenience at 6010 66th Avenue in Riverdale for gas and a snack.
“Once I was inside, I just felt like getting a ticket, maybe two. I almost never think of the Lottery even when I’m in stores that sell it.” The healthcare worker immediately picked out two of the $5 Hot 5s Hot Streak scratch-offs, recalling, “$10 was what I wanted to spend and they were $5 each. Plus, I liked the colors.”
Scratching her games off later at home, the Prince George’s County resident was disappointed to find the first scratch-off carried no prize. That thought had barely entered her mind before she revealed a $50,000 prize on the second game.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” she said. “I called in my mom and sister, assuring them that what I thought I had won couldn’t be real. When they started jumping, I knew that I really had won.”
The winner sees her $50,000 prize as an early holiday gift from the Lottery. “It sure has brightened things up around here. When my school loans are paid off next week and my savings account has grown considerably, my family and I will start off the holiday season with a bang.”
The management at Super Convenience will feel that bang, too, when the Lottery retailer receives a $500 bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize instant ticket. The Hot 5’s Hot Streak game debuted in July and, with this Riverdale win, still has two more top-prize winners available.
