Michael Timmons II celebrates the end of an exciting road-trip AND a $50,000 win! Hooray!
What began as an uneventful road trip to a Charles Town casino took a turn for the better after Michael Timmons II made a short stop in Luckytown. Michael’s U-turn to success was spelled out all over his $5 Deluxe Crossword scratch-off, making the Delaware man a $50,000 top-prize winner in the game.
The lucky Millsboro resident said he purchased the scratch-off shortly after the trio — Michael, his girlfriend and his sister — began their journey from Delaware to West Virginia. He didn’t discover his Lottery luck until their return trip from West Virginia.
As he scratched the crossword-style game’s letters and compared them with the puzzles on his instant ticket, Michael began assembling words out of the matched letters. In the darkness of the car’s interior, Michael knew the scratch-off was special as he revealed the words one by one, including “Itch,” “Body” and “Soul.” The word tally grew until he was clearly a winner, a fact confirmed by Michael’s girlfriend Brittany and a scan of the ticket using his smartphone and the Lottery’s mobile app. The lucky ticket was worth $50,000!
The excitement of the moment was overpowering. “I was just shaking, thinking about the prize,” said Michael.
The lucky winner told Lottery officials he has worked as a construction worker on the shore for over a decade on new construction projects and remodels in the busy Ocean City resort area. The nights that passed until he could claim his prize were restless, even though his ticket was safe and secure. “It hasn’t left my side,” he said.
Michael plans to use the prize to purchase a truck and help his family.
The lucky man found his winning Deluxe Crossword game at Isabella Street Exxon, which is located at 501 West Salisbury Parkway in Salisbury. For selling the top-prize winning scratch-off in the $5 game, the retailer will earn a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
