Kent County man is 1st top-prize winner on $5 game
A Rock Hall resident who is a Baltimore Ravens fan just scored a $100,000 top-prize touchdown win with the Maryland Lottery’s new $5 Ravens scratch-off.
The 55-year-old marine maintenance specialist tackled three of the football-themed scratch-offs last week in hopes of finding the game’s first top prize. He accomplished his goal with the final instant ticket he scratched off while sitting in his truck overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
The lucky winner is a teak and hull repairman at the Sailing Emporium Marina in Rock Hall. He purchased his winning ticket shortly after sending his 28-year-old son to a Lottery retailer for a Ravens scratch-off. His son returned with Monopoly scratch-offs, instead, saying that the store had sold out of the popular game. The determined dad started hunting for Ravens scratch-offs and found them at Rock Hall Liquors in town.
The Kent County resident has shared news of the win with a few people, including his son and a neighbor. “I plan to use the winnings to open my own boat-detailing business for me and my son,” he said. “It’s a way for us to enjoy the winnings for years to come.”
His lucky retailer, Rock Hall Liquors, is located at 21318 Rock Hall Road in Rock Hall. Six more $100,000 top prizes remain on the scratch-off, along with hundreds of thousands of prizes ranging from $50,000 to $5. Even if the scratch-off doesn’t win instantly, players can still score prizes such as Ravens season tickets and cash through a second-chance contest. Get details at mdlottery.com/ravens.
