Lansdowne man claims top prize on Jackpot instant ticket
Financial woes facing longtime couple John Sawyer and Teressa Davies of Lansdowne are just a bad memory since the roofer nailed a $100,000 top prize on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off. The happy dad just found his good fortune with a $10 Jackpot! scratch-off.
“We had mounting bills,” John said. Teressa has just started a full-time state government job but winter jobs were slow for John, who has worked as a roofer for more than 30 years. “This win couldn’t have come at a better time in our lives.”
The 47-year-old’s lucky Lottery purchase came early on a Saturday morning. John was all set to buy cigarettes at the Royal Farms #050 at 2704 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore when he saw his boss buy several Jackpot! instant tickets. He changed his mind about buying cigarettes and instead purchased the same scratch-off.
“At first, I thought it was worth about $100 but then I quickly realized it was for much more,” John said. “That’s when I woke Teressa up to tell her and she was in shock, too.”
After being a couple for over 17 years, they are now planning their wedding.
“This money is such a blessing,” Teressa said. “We’ve been wanting to get married for a while and now we can.” The ecstatic pair said they will pay bills with their winnings, plan their wedding and share some of the prize with their children, too.
