Routine Day Is Anything But Ordinary

Montgomery County woman wins $250,000 Mega Millions second-tier prize

A 69-year-old Montgomery County woman routinely visits her daughter in Germantown. While in town last month, she stopped to buy Mega Millions tickets from her favorite supermarket in the area. The following day she learned that there was a $250,000 second-tier winner ticket sold at the store while out running errands and raced back to her daughter’s home to check her tickets. Low and behold, her ticket was the winner.

The woman, who was born in Venezuela, said, “I was just so shocked after I checked my ticket and realized that I had won. I didn’t believe it at first. Once I knew it was true, I started jumping up and down.”

The lucky winner, who does event planning with her daughter, told Lottery officials that she always uses the quick pick when playing Mega Millions. Her winning numbers for Tuesday, January 15 were 01-06-12-19-41. She was one number shy of hitting the jackpot.

The woman said she would save most of her winnings and use a portion of it to take her family to Disney World this summer. The lucky ticket was purchased at Safeway on Germantown Road in Germantown.
