Running Errands Leads to Massive Multiplier Money Scratch-off Win

Washington, D.C. resident collects $50,000 top prize with mom by his side

A mother’s call for help with errands was answered by her son, which in turn led to his purchase of a $50,000 top-prize winning Multiplier Money scratch-off.

“My mom said she needed some help, so I spent the day trying to make her errands easier,” said “Drelle,” the nickname the Washington, D.C. winner gave for Lottery publicity. Sitting next to his mom in the Lottery Winner’s Circle, he added, “When I realized I won, I just thought, ‘Thank God’.”

“Drelle” washed his mom’s car and then drove her to Weis Markets #45 in Laurel for some quick grocery shopping. His mom gave him money to grab some items and the 57-year-old, finding he had money left after the purchase, decided to try his luck with a scratch-off.

Using the “eeny, meeny, miny, moe” method of picking an instant ticket, he landed on the $5 Multiplier Money game. The mother and son then finished their other errands and returned to her home, where “Drelle” played the scratch-off.

“I scratched all the numbers and I saw matching 19s and I thought I might have won $5,” said “Drelle,” laughing, “but as I kept scratching, I saw more zeros.”

Once he scratched off the prize, “Drelle” saw “$5,000.” However, his match happened to be a 10X winning number so the prize became $50,000! “Drelle” was so surprised that he checked the instant ticket using his Lottery mobile app and even walked to his nearest Lottery retailer to double- and triple-check his win.

“Drelle” plans to share his prize with his mom because she supplied the $5 for the instant ticket purchase. He will use the rest of the money to pay off debt and save for a rainy day. “Drelle’s” mom said she plans to use her share of the winnings to “help somebody.”

The $5 Multiplier Money game debuted last month. “Drelle” claimed the game’s third top prize, leaving six more awaiting discovery as well as 11 $5,000 second-tier prizes.
