Wins the game’s top prize of $100,000
A 56-year-old Salisbury woman says she can finally relax about her transportation dilemma after winning a $100,000 top prize on the Maryland Lottery’s Diamond 7s scratch-off.
The retired caregiver said she found her fortune after she and a good friend made a quick grocery stop at the Food Lion in Salisbury. Once there, the winner’s friend decided to buy her a few Diamond 7s scratch-offs because he knows she loves playing instant tickets.
“Once I got home and put all the groceries away, I decided to scratch the tickets my friend got me,” she said. “When I saw that the ticket was saying that I won $100,000, I really couldn’t believe it and then I started jumping up and down. I was so overjoyed.”
The excited Wicomico County resident told Lottery officials that one of the first things she may do is buy a new car. “I’ve been driving the same truck for over 16 years and it has quite a few miles on it,” she said. She has prayed for a way to afford a new car and said she feels that this win is the answer to her prayers.
“This is such a blessing for me and I feel like I can finally breathe a little bit better,” she said with a smile. “Now I can go and buy that new convertible that I’ve always wanted.” The Diamond 7s game debuted in 2015 and still has two top prizes of $100,000 remaining.
The retailer is also a winner. For selling the top-prize ticket in the game, the Food Lion #1211 located at 1216 Nanticoke Road in Salisbury will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
