A smiling and sleep-deprived Salisbury woman arrived at Lottery Headquarters to claim her $100,000 top prize on the Lottery’s new Crown Jewel 7’s scratch-off ticket. “I haven’t gotten much sleep,” said the winner. “I just smile all the time.”
The 65-year-old is a big fan of Maryland Lottery scratch-offs. She also enjoys playing Mega Millions and Keno at least once a week. The Walmart employee purchased her Crown Jewel 7’s ticket on Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t until later that evening, however, that she scratched it, revealing her $100,000 windfall. “I was in shock,” she said. “I remember yelling to my husband, ‘Look, look, look.”
“I thought she was sick or something,” said the winner’s spouse, who had accompanied her to claim her win. “Then she told me, ‘I’m fine. Check this ticket and make sure I’m correct — that it’s a winner.’”
Indeed it was, and the nervous couple made their way north on Wednesday to claim their prize. “We were worried something would happen to the ticket between then and now,” they said. “This was one of the longer rides into Baltimore then we’ve had in quite awhile, but it was definitely worth the drive.”
Now that she has some extra cash the soon-to-retire winner intends to use a portion of the money to buy a new car. The rest of her winnings will be put in the bank for safe keeping. The winning ticket was purchased at Beverage Barn, located at 1120 E. Church St. in Salibury.
