Baltimore woman wins $10,000 for the second time playing 10X Cash
For most people, winning the top prize on a scratch-off ticket is a once-in-a-lifetime experience – an occurrence worthy of considerable surprise. To win that same prize again, playing the same game, is a mind-boggling experience. And that’s exactly the sense of shock that a Baltimore woman felt as she visited Maryland Lottery headquarters on Dec. 7 to claim her second 10X Cash $10,000 top prize.
A trip to the Giant Food store at 3757 Old Court Road in Baltimore set the stage for the improbable occurrence.
“I really don’t play that often,” said the lucky winner, a 51-year-old wife and mother who works as an administrative assistant. “Not even once a week, probably. But when I saw a man getting a ticket from the vending machine, the feeling just hit me.”
She picked 10X Cash, her favorite Lottery game, after it delivered a $10,000 win last year. As she walked through the store picking out her groceries, she scratched her ticket.
“There was a match for $1,000 right away,” she said. “I was elated, but never expected the matches to keep coming like they did last year. But they did.”
With her heart racing and pulse pounding, she hurriedly finished her shopping, eager to get home and tell her husband the good news.
“I walked in the house and dropped the ticket on his lap,” she said. “He took a look and said, ‘You must be the luckiest woman in the world.’”
The Baltimore couple is planning to put their $10,000 prize to good use this Christmas.
“The holiday and an important family birthday will get a boost,” the lucky winner said. “As for the rest, we’re still thinking on it.”
After a successful run last year, the popular 10X Cash game was re-launched for 2015 in March and started with 85 $10,000 top prizes. Seven of them are still waiting to be found at Lottery retailers across the state, along with two $1,000 prizes and a host of other prizes from $50 to $500.
