Baltimore couple wins top prize on Bonus Match 5 game
Weary after working all day, a Baltimore couple nixed the idea of fighting their way through Friday night rush hour traffic to collect a relative from the airport.
Instead, they took the relaxing, scenic route to the airport and had time to stop to buy gas at the Nursery Road BP in Linthicum Heights. On a whim, the duo decided to play the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 game and found themselves holding a $50,000 winning ticket in the Feb. 6 drawing.
“My husband is usually the one who plays but for some reason I decided to get the ticket,” said the 40-year-old shelf stocker. “He was the one who checked all the numbers. I almost fell off my feet when he told me that we won. At first, I thought he was kidding me.”
The excited couple told Lottery officials that they plan to use some of the money toward a pre-planned trip to New York City. “It’s my birthday in March,” said the wife. “Now I can definitely do New York up right.”
For selling the top-prize ticket, the Nursery Road BP at 816 West Nursery Road in Linthicum Heights receives a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
