Scratch-off Fan Crosses Border for Big Win Before Thanksgiving

Virginia woman wins $100,000 on $100,000 Extreme Cash scratch-off

The day before Thanksgiving, an Arlington, Virginia woman traveled over to Maryland to do some shopping. In the process, she walked away with a $100,000 winning scratch-off.

The 52-year-old occasional scratch-off player made a lucky stop that day at Osborne Wine & Spirits in Upper Marlboro. She was with her brother and, deciding to play a scratch-off, picked the $30 $100,000 Extreme Cash instant ticket. He watched as she scratched the game off in the store and revealed a $100,000 top-prize win.

“I just stared at the ticket, I wasn’t sure what to think,” said the mother of two teenagers. “I showed my brother and he confirmed the win for me.”

The lucky lady didn’t let this moment of good fortune stop her shopping plans. She put the instant ticket away and continued on her way. When she got home that evening, the happy woman shared news of her good fortune with her husband.

“He said, ‘You sure are lucky,’ ” said the winner, smiling, after claiming her prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters.

While speaking with Lottery officials, the out-of-state winner said she plans to save some of her prize for her children’s college education and may use some of the funds to buy a house.

Osborne Wine & Spirits, located at 7603 Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro, is celebrating, too. The Lottery retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for its role in selling a top prize-winning scratch-off of $100,000.
