On a day marked by tricks and treats, a Pennsylvania woman and her mom crossed the Maryland state line to collect a very special Halloween treat from the Maryland Lottery — a $30,000 scratch-off prize.
The $3 Bag Toss Bucks game gave the lucky daughter her first winning instant ticket! She has her mom to thank for her Lottery luck.
After a day of shopping, the winner’s mother was driving home when she spotted Jiffy Mart in Westminster. Its signs advertised significantly cheaper gas than that being sold by gas stations near her home. Mom decided to stop and fill up her gas tank. As she paid for the gas, the generous mother spotted the store’s extensive selection of scratch-offs and zeroed in on Bag Toss Bucks. She chose the scratch-off because her 21-year-old daughter loves the popular tailgating game Cornhole, also known as Bean Bag Toss. Mom experienced a feeling that she should buy the scratch-off for her daughter and she did, delivering it as a surprise when she arrived at home.
As the daughter scratched off the instant ticket, she noticed something new — she won! “I passed the ticket to my mom, who was sitting next to me, and I said, ‘What? There is no way!’ ”
The happy winner plans to use the prize to get something nice for her mother and will save the rest for future endeavors. Joining in her celebration is the lucky Carroll County retailer that sold the winning ticket. Jiffy Mart located at 1 Magna Way in Westminster earned a $300 bonus for selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game.
Bag Toss Bucks still has three unclaimed $30,000 prizes along with thousands of others ranging from $3 to $1,000.
