Scratch-off Novice Wins $50,000 Playing Her First Instant Ticket

A grandmother of five who accompanied her son-in-law into a Gaithersburg store spotted a Maryland Lottery game that she wanted to play — the $2,000,000 Fortune scratch-off.

Luckily for the North Potomac scratch-off novice, this first Maryland Lottery instant ticket that she has ever played made her a $50,000 winner!

“She was really lucky,” said her son-in-law. When the big win appeared, they confirmed the prize with the clerk at Flower Hill Beer & Wine located at 18253 Flower Hill Way. “She was happy and the guy at the liquor store was very happy she won.”

The 56-year-old mother of three isn’t sure yet what she will do with her prize. Her son-in-law suggested that debts and buying a car could top her list. The happy homemaker and her son-in-law planned to buy Mega Millions tickets for Friday’s drawing after they left Lottery headquarters in hopes that her scratch-off luck is the start of a winning streak. The Mega Millions jackpot is $336 million with a cash option of $195.3 million.

“She’s going to pick the numbers,” said her son-in-law, smiling.

Our lucky winner left plenty of prizes unclaimed in the $30 $2,000,000 Fortune game. The game still has one $2 million top prize, three more $50,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $30 to $5,000.
