Scratch-off Player’s Dreamed-of Win Enables Her to Help Others

Claims $50,000 top prize on Deluxe Crossword game

A College Park woman who routinely helps those less fortunate living in Langley Park got an answer — in her dreams — to her quandary about how to provide a permanent space to better assist those in need. She dreamed twice of winning big with a Maryland Lottery scratch-off and so, one day, headed to a Lottery retailer in search of a win.

“Sometimes I look at the tickets and one of them calls to me,” she said. “I go by my feelings.”

On the day she found her $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the lucky player visited Royal Farms #035 in Baltimore. In picking an instant ticket, she said, “colors are important.” She selected the brightest game on display, which was a vivid yellow $5 Deluxe Crossword game.

She took her scratch-off to the car to play later. “When I have time, I scratch them,” she said. “When I got home, I had time and I played it. It’s good to take time. You don’t want to rush. You have to enjoy everything you do.”

Well, she certainly enjoyed seeing her big win on this extended-play game! The Deluxe Crossword instant ticket has five more unclaimed $50,000 top prizes, 14 $10,000 prizes and hundreds of thousands of others ranging from $5 to $1,000.

The lucky winner plans to follow her dreams and play more scratch-offs, in case a second win is in the works. She will put her prize toward her goal of establishing a permanent location in Langley Park to help those who are homeless, battling drug and alcohol addictions as well as depression.

Her lucky retailer is also in the money. For selling a top-prize-winning scratch-off, Royal Farms #035 will earn a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The Baltimore County store is located at 8803 Philadelphia Road.
