“Crossword Camper” wins $10,000 playing Cash Craze Crossword game

A Baltimore County couple’s trip to the grocery ended on a high note after the husband purchased a Cash Craze Crossword scratch-off from a Lottery vending machine.

Dubbing themselves the “Crossword Campers,” the pair found the lucky $3 scratch-off at Geresbeck’s Bi-Rite in Baltimore.

“We scratched it off when we got home from the grocery store,” said the 87-year-old husband. “I’ve never heard my wife say so many oh’s in a row!”

At first glance, the Baltimore residents thought they won $2,000. “After further review of our ticket, we learned it was $10,000!” the husband said.

Their prize arrives at a great time because the retirees just purchased a new washer and dryer. After allocating some of the prize to pay off that bill, “Crossword Camper” plans to save the rest for future use. The couple also plan to keep playing Lottery games. With the Powerball jackpot still climbing, they might purchase a ticket for the Saturday, Feb. 18 drawing in hopes of winning the $349 million jackpot. The cash option is $213.1 million.

Their lucky retailer is Geresbeck’s Bi-Rite located at 2109 Eastern Blvd. in Baltimore. There are four $30,000 top prizes remaining in the Cash Craze Crossword game and another three unclaimed $10,000 prizes along with thousands of others ranging from $3 to $3,000.
