Cockeysville woman wins $10,000 on Royal Gems scratch-off
The Maryland Lottery crowned a Cockeysville woman with the title of Royal Gems scratch-off winner after she claimed a $10,000 prize on the $20 game. The 19-year-old queen for a day is still basking in the glow of Lottery luck.
The new mother went specifically to Team Spirits located at 588 Cranbrook Road in Cockeysville on Sept. 1 to purchase scratch-off games. She asked for a random ticket and the cashier handed her the lucky Royal Gems scratch-off, which she played in the store.
“I knew it was a winner, but I asked around any way,” said the loyal scratch-off fan. “Everyone kept telling me how lucky I am.”
The long Labor Day holiday weekend came before she could visit Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim her prize. Nervous about harm coming to the winning ticket, the Baltimore County resident hid it under her bed until Lottery headquarters reopened on Sept. 6 and she could claim the prize. “I can’t explain how I was feeling all weekend,” she said.
The stay-at-home mom said she’s not sure how she will spend her royal bucks, but said she needs a car and may put that on her shopping list. She also plans to continue to play scratch-off games at her leisure.
The fortunate winner nabbed one of the $10,000 prizes, but the Royal Gems scratch-off still has three more $10,000 prizes remaining, two $50,000 prizes and one $1 million prize left in the game.
