Scratch-off Surprise Boosts Financial Adviser’s Assets

Claims $50,000 prize playing Diamond Spectacular game

274-Diamond-Spectacular-ITVMLike many of us, a Baltimore County man relies on a routine to get his workday started. He never skips his morning stop for coffee and a scratch-off and, after winning $50,000 playing the Diamond Spectacular game, he’s unlikely to change that habit any time soon!

The 40-something financial adviser, who was a big fan of Maryland Lottery instant games even before his big win, is selective in his ticket choice. “I play once a day only, and always $20 games,” he said. “Sometimes, though, I’ll get a second if I win on the first.”

Happily, such was the case last week when he bought a Diamond Spectacular game at High’s #38 located at 708 Lisbon Center Drive in Woodbine.

“The first ticket paid off so I decided on one more,” he said. It didn’t take long for his morning to get the kind of boost that no cup of coffee could ever provide.

“I saw a $5,000 win almost immediately,” said the Randallstown-area resident. “I was so surprised that I almost didn’t scratch the rest of the ticket. How could there be more?” Additional scratching revealed his big win.

“I could tell that the cashier knew something was up – maybe from the look on my face,” he said. “I asked her, ‘What was the biggest winning ticket the store had ever sold?’ ” Learning that the Lottery record there was $10,000, he smiled and held up his Diamond Spectacular instant ticket, saying, “You now have a new record.”

The happy winner plans to put his prize directly into savings. “It’s good to know it’ll be there if I ever need it.”

The Diamond Spectacular instant game debuted last May and still has one more unclaimed $1 million top prize. The game also has two remaining $50,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $20 to $10,000.
