Sixth to claim Neon x10 game’s $50,000 top prize
The first phone call Yolanda Stutson of Hyattsville made to her husband last Friday was to check his thoughts on dinner. The federal government employee was leaving work and planned to stop at the grocery and pick up fast food for dinner. Her second call to James came after Lottery luck had placed a $50,000 Neon x10 top-prize scratch-off in her hand!
“I was walking out of the grocery store and noticed a store that sold Lottery tickets, so I decided to try a few,” Yolanda said. She picked a $5 Neon x10 game from the display at Largo Liquors in Upper Marlboro.
“I scratched it and won, so I got one more,” she said. That next Neon x10 scratch-off carried the game’s top prize. “I was shocked on the inside but completely calm on the outside.”
The 45-year-old mom returned to her car. “I called my husband back and told him that the fast food we’d planned on was out – dinner was going to be a little nicer tonight.” Yolanda’s excitement grew once she arrived home and began celebrating with her husband and 9-year-old.
The family plans to spend some of the prize on bills, will donate to their church and put the rest of the winnings in the bank. “We’ll have some fun with this,” Yolanda said, thinking aloud that her family could enjoy “a weekend getaway and the three of us will go on a serious shopping spree.”
The Neon x10 game hit store shelves in May 2015 and has two $50,000 top prizes remaining. There are also five $5,000 winning tickets awaiting discovery in Maryland stores. The lucky retailer that sold the winning scratch-off, Largo Liquors at 836 Largo Center Drive, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
