“Pedro” of Taneytown found her $10,000 scratch-off prize on The Big $10 Ticket.

Mother of three finds $10,000 prize playing The Big $10 Ticket

A Taneytown farmer’s worries about how to afford repairs to her broken work truck are gone with the March winds after she won $10,000 on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off!

The occasional instant ticket player, nicknamed “Pedro,” also sells real estate but Cedarhedge Farm is her primary focus this spring. Adding three hungry lambs to the homestead was already keeping the family busy before the farm truck decided to break down.

The kids were in school the day that Pedro decided, on a whim, to try her Lottery luck. The 36-year-old headed to Walkersville Wine & Spirits, located at 130 Walkers Village Way in Walkersville, to buy scratch-offs. Her lucky choice at the Frederick County retailer: two of The Big $10 Ticket.

The mother of three left the store and sat in the family car to scratch off her two games, hoping that Lottery luck was going to make her day. It did!

“I don’t play very much at all,” she said. “I didn’t think it was real. I kept saying it was fake.”

Pedro took a picture of the scratch-off on her phone and sent the photo to her husband. Even his excitement didn’t convince her that the $10 scratch-off carried a $10,000 prize. Looking at her paperwork at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, Pedro shook her head in disbelief.

“It still doesn’t seem like it’s real,” she said.

Her husband and daughter accompanied the grateful winner to claim her prize. She told Lottery officials he hopes to return very soon to the Winner’s Circle to claim another big prize to help the family. If they try their luck again with The Big $10 Ticket, the couple has many chances to win big prizes. The $10 game has three unclaimed $100,000 top prizes along with 17 more $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
