Health, finance concerns eased by $10,000 prize
Winning prizes on Maryland Lottery scratch-offs added many a tool to a Dundalk man’s collection during the years he worked in construction. The retiree’s new $10,000 prize, which he won on the $250,000 Jackpot scratch-off, will ease financial and health concerns facing the winner and his wife.
“I’ve been buying Lottery tickets for a long time,” said the 72-year-old. “In fact, some of my best tools were bought after Lottery wins.” The father and grandfather sees his win this week as a “tool” that will help him care for his wife and add to the fund they plan to pass along to their granddaughter. His lucky win occurred because of a helpful store clerk.
“It really is an odd story how this happened,” he said. “I’ve been playing almost only Keno these last few years so, if not for the cashier suggesting I try it, I never would have played that Jackpot scratch-off ticket. And was she ever happy when I scratched it!”
The helpful Quick Mart employee works at the store located at 300 Trappe Road in Dundalk. After scanning and confirming the $10,000 win she’d help deliver, the clerk celebrated alongside the winner. “It was a shock for both of us,” he said.
The $250,000 Jackpot is a $10 instant ticket that debuted in late February. Three of its top prizes and 12 $10,000 prizes remain in stores along with thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
