Second Scratch-off in New Pack Reveals $100,000 Prize

“RodCar” agreed to add two scratch-offs to his purchase and walked away a $100,000 winner.

Frederick County resident finds big win with Lady Luck game

A Clarksburg man gave a winning answer when his local retailer asked if he’d like to add a scratch-off or two to a recent Powerball purchase. His “yes” led to a $100,000 top-prize win in the Lady Luck game.

The 47-year-old, who was poised to leave Food Plus Convenient Mart with only his Powerball ticket, changed his mind when asked the question. The employee was opening a new book of Lady Luck scratch-offs and preparing to put them out on display. The store is one of the Frederick County resident’s favorite Lottery retailers and the employee knew the player’s Lottery routine.

“He said, ‘I have a brand new pack here, are you sure you don’t want a scratch-off?’ recalled the lucky player, who dubbed himself “RodCar” for his anonymous winner photo. “I usually get two scratch-offs back to back.”

“RodCar” added two of the $10 Lady Luck games to his purchase and headed home. He was relaxing on the couch when he began scratching off the second of the instant tickets, not expecting anything unusual to appear. After all, he had no experience with the Lady Luck game.

The loyal scratch-off player prefers bingo scratch-offs, because that style of game delivered $340 prizes three times in one year. “Bingo was a really hot game for me,” said the independent heating and air conditioning contractor. His Lady Luck scratch-off gave him a red-hot win, too!

“I was blinking and blinking,” he said, remembering that he simply couldn’t believe his eyes. He called to his wife, who was in another room, using such a strange voice she came running to see what was wrong.

“RodCar” didn’t even realize until later that the first scratch-off from the new book of Lady Luck instant tickets was also a winner! That added $15 to his lucky haul.

The parents of three are still considering what to do with the prize. They say they will probably first resolve their transportation challenges. Her vehicle will get badly needed repairs, she said, and he can buy a new set of wheels to replace his aging vehicle that has more than 250,000 miles on it. The kids will also enjoy a little surprise, too, said the happy dad.

His persistent retailer also shares in the win. Food Plus Convenient Mart located at 1896 Urbana Pike in Clarksburg earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game.

There are still five more unclaimed $100,000 top prizes in the Lady Luck game, along with 15 $10,000 prizes or thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
