Claims $10,000 prize on 50X The Cash instant ticket
A familiar scratch-off fan returned to Maryland Lottery headquarters this week! A Salisbury man, for the second time in six months, made the long but happy drive to Baltimore to claim a $10,000 scratch-off prize. His fastidious nature led to the win, according to his wife.
“We’ve taken a few short trips in the last week or so and our car had gotten a little cluttered,” she explained. “When we got home from the most recent drive, he just had to clean it out. He couldn’t take it anymore.”
The 74-year-old father of two was just about finished when he spotted a $10 bill under the driver’s seat. “I stuck it in my pocket and headed to the grocery store to restock the fridge,” said the retiree. His destination was Food Lion #1560 at 206 N. Fruitland Blvd in Wicomico County.
With milk and bread in hand, courtesy of the Fruitland store, he started back to his newly clean car. Then, the store’s Lottery vending machine caught his eye.
“The first ticket I noticed was 50x The Cash, which costs $10,” he said. “I remembered the $10 I’d found and it seemed meant to be.”
Scratching off the game there in the store, he was floored when he saw the match that made it worth $10,000. “How can this be? Again?” The Wicomico County man immediately called his wife who told Lottery officials that she noticed something a bit different in his voice. He didn’t have his usual steady, measured tone.
“I didn’t believe it at first when he told me, even though my husband is not a practical joke kind of guy,” she said. “A moment later, I was celebrating.”
The couple will use their winnings to take care of some bills and to help family members.
The 50x The Cash game, which debuted in late January, has six $100,000 top prizes, seven $50,000 prizes and 20 $10,000 prizes remaining. The popular game is a member of the Lottery’s Multiplier family of scratch-off games, which includes 5x the Cash, 10x The Cash, 20x The Cash and 100x The Cash instant tickets.
