Finds new game’s first $50,000 top prize
A grocery shopper from Davidsonville brought home plenty of bread the other day but it wasn’t the type one eats! The 42-year-old left the store with the first $50,000 top prize on the Maryland Lottery’s new Cash Craze Doubler scratch-off.
The excited player won her “bread” at Shoppers #2332 in Crofton, where she stopped to pick up pasta to make spaghetti. The Anne Arundel County resident paid for her groceries and decided to treat herself to a scratch-off or two with her $5 in change. The new $5 game caught her eye and she tried her luck.
“I was a little eager to scratch my scratch-off,” she said, “so after I loaded up everything, I started scratching my ticket. That’s when I got the surprise of my life because each line I would scratch, $5,000 prizes would be revealed.”
Good fortune certainly follows this happy player. She won $10,000 nearly 10 years ago as a contestant in one of the Lottery’s second-chance contests.
“Winning this $50,000 is just a blessing,” she said. “My husband and I have a few credit cards with very high balances. Now, we can finally be done with them.”
The happy player told Lottery officials that she also may use some of the prize to take her family to Orlando to watch her eldest daughter compete in a cheerleading tournament.
The Cash Craze Doubler game went on sale at Lottery retailers on April 23 and has eight top prizes remaining. The game is packed with lower prizes, too, ranging from $5 to $5,000.
Also a winner is the lucky Lottery retailer. For selling a top-prize scratch-off of $50,000, Shoppers #2332 located at 1649 Crofton Center earns a bonus of $500 from the Lottery.
