Sibling Buys $50,000-Winning Scratch-off from Bin #26 on Sister’s Nov. 26 Birthday

Has sister in mind when she purchases Power 5s scratch-off

Buying the scratch-off in Lottery vending machine bin #26 on her sister’s Nov. 26 birthday led to a $50,000 payday for a Jarrettsville woman. She bought the scratch-off with her sister in mind and, initially, thought her prize was for far less.

“I saw all those fives and thought, ‘This is going to be a $100 winner,’” she told Lottery officials when she claimed her prize. As those fives kept coming on the Power 5s instant ticket, she modified her estimated win to $5,000 and wound up with the game’s $50,000 top prize.

The Harford County resident follows the Lottery’s recommendations for responsible play, setting a limit for her purchases and sticking to it. The loyal player typically spends no more than $20 at a time on Lottery games. However, on the day she visited Forest Hill Exxon, the anonymous player had a few winning tickets for small amounts that she cashed in to buy games. Among the games she selected was from the Lottery vending equipment was the winning Power 5s scratch-off.

The lucky player plans to share her prize with family members and may take a nicer-than-usual vacation to a beach. She had not yet selected a beach to visit when she claimed her prize.

The $5 Power 5s game made its debut on Nov. 15, only days before the birthday of the winner’s sister. Players have plenty of prizes to find in the game, including six more $50,000 top prizes and 13 $5,000 prizes.

Sharing in her good fortune is Forest Hill Exxon at 2019 Rock Spring Road in Forest Hill. The Harford County retailer will receive a bonus of $500 from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
