Silver Spring Carpenter Nails Loteria Scratch-off’s First $30,000 Prize

Maryland Lottery launched bilingual ticket on Feb. 23

200-Loteria-ITVMA Montgomery County carpenter who always selects the Maryland Lottery’s newest instant tickets to play nailed the first $30,000 top prize on the new Loteria scratch-off.

The Silver Spring man bought the $3 instant ticket because it reminded him of his native country. He moved to the United States from El Salvador nearly 20 years ago and remembers the Loteria game, which is similar to bingo and is popular in his homeland. As soon as the loyal Lottery player spotted the new Loteria scratch-off at Glenmont Check Cashing in Silver Spring, he knew he had to give it a try.

The 43-year-old purchased a few tickets, winning a little bit on each one. When he scratched his final ticket, he was shocked and excited to see the $30,000 prize! The happy winner plans to pay off his car and possibly travel to El Salvador to visit family.

For selling the top-prize ticket, Glenmont Check Cashing located at 12345 Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring, will receive a $300 bonus. The Lottery launched Loteria, its first bilingual instant ticket, on Feb. 23 through its statewide network of more than 4,500 retailers. The game still has four top prizes remaining.
