Silver Spring Cashier Wins Big on Bingo Gold Scratch-off

Occasional scratch-off player takes home $10,000 prize

A lot of Maryland Lottery players would like to have the type of good luck that visited a Silver Spring resident last week.

When the occasional scratch-off buyer stopped at the W Express gas station, located at 8550 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, she decided to try her Lottery luck. She bought just one scratch-off, but that single $10 Bingo Gold ticket delivered a $10,000 prize.

The Montgomery County resident, who works as a cashier, said it had been a while since she had purchased any scratch-off tickets. So she was shocked to win a big prize, especially since she needed a bit of help figuring out how much she had won.

“I wasn’t sure about how the ticket worked, but someone in the store showed me,” she said.

Sure enough, her winning numbers formed an “X” across one of the eight cards on her Bingo Gold ticket, giving her the largest Lottery prize of her life.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said with a smile. “I was by myself, but I went straight home after that.”

Her father joined her at Lottery headquarters to claim the prize, which the lucky winner said would go into savings. She also mentioned that she might use some of the money for a trip to Utah to visit her sister. Her largest previous win was $500 courtesy of a Monopoly scratch-off ticket several months ago. She also said she recently started playing Keno and quickly took a liking to the game, which has provided her with a $100 win so far.

The Bingo Gold ticket launched last August and three of its $100,000 stop prizes are still unclaimed, along with nine more $10,000 prizes and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $10,000.
