As winter nears, a Montgomery County floral designer’s joy is still in bloom. The lucky 54-year-old recently discovered an overflowing bouquet of green. With the aid of a $30 scratch-off, the Silver Spring resident scratched her way to a $2,000,000 Mega Bucks top prize!
The lucky lady said she has played and won several small prizes with this scratch-off over the past year. Two weeks ago, she visited Long Branch Beer & Wine in Silver Spring to buy a few more of the popular instant tickets. She told Maryland Lottery officials that she selected the store because she felt it was lucky and knew it had produced several past winners.
“I had passed by the store and saw the banners advertising the store’s luck,” she explained.
She purchased two instant tickets and scratched them in the store. The first scratch-off was not a winner, but the second one required a second opinion. She asked the store clerk to examine the scratch-off and received great news! The employee confirmed that the strange emblem and the $2,000,000 prize underneath were genuine.
The woman, who has worked for nearly a decade arranging and packaging floral arrangements for others’ special moments, had a special moment of her own when she realized that she won $2 million.
“I was shocked and relieved at the same time. I’m so happy that I can pay off my bills,” she said.
The popular $2,000,000 Mega Bucks, the Lottery’s second $30 scratch-off, has been on sale since February and has two $2 million top prizes remaining.
