Silver Spring Man Claims Jan. 15 Bonus Match 5 Prize

January drawing delivered $50,000 top-prize win

A Silver Spring resident who held on to a $50,000 winning Bonus Match 5 ticket since January finally arrived at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize.

The 79-year-old paid $6 for nine lines of Bonus Match 5 numbers for the Jan. 15 drawing, letting the Lottery terminal quick pick his digits. He watched the drawing that night and saw the five numbers on the fourth line of his ticket match all five of the winning numbers: 11, 12, 24, 28 and 30. The Montgomery County resident kept the winning ticket safe until this week, when he got a ride to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to make his claim.

“I knew right away, but I didn’t say anything to anyone,” the winner said. The loyal player has no plans for the prize other than paying bills.

His lucky retailer is Kensington Liberty located at 10550 Connecticut Avenue in Kensington. The store received a banner from the Lottery to celebrate its sale of a $50,000 winning Bonus Match 5 ticket. The Montgomery County retailer also received a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the ticket.

Bonus Match 5 drawings take place every night seven days a week. Five winning balls are selected from a range of 1 to 39, as well as a Bonus Ball that provides additional chances to win. Players win the $50,000 top prize if they match all five numbers. There are five other prize levels ranging from $2 to $600 for players who match two, three or four numbers and the Bonus Ball.
