Montgomery County player poised to visit his daughter in Mexico
A mason from Silver Spring who usually sticks with $5 and $10 scratch-off tickets switched things up and bought a $20 ticket in the 2020 Cash game. The result: a $20,200 prize.
“I liked the presentation of the ticket,” he said, pointing out its New Year theme and general flashy look. Upon claiming his prize on Dec. 23, he said he was surprised by the big win.
He attributes the win to a general change in fortunes he has experienced since changing some of his lifestyle choices.
“I quit my bad habits. I stopped drinking and smoking tobacco,” he said, pointing out that those two changes have coincided with a substantial increase in good luck.
As for his plans for the winnings, he’ll be putting most of the money in savings. In addition, however, he intends to celebrate when he visits his 16-year-old daughter in Mexico in January. He spends most of the year in the U.S. where his parents live, but looks forward to visiting his daughter each year.
Sharing in the big winner’s good fortune is Rodman’s Discount Store, located at 4301 Randolph Rd. in Silver Spring, which receives a bonus of $202, equal to 1 percent of the prize total, for selling a scratch-off ticket with a prize of $10,000 or more.
The 2020 Cash scratch-off ticket launched in November and still has 197 unclaimed top prizes of $20,200 and more than $48 million in total cash prizes.
