Among two dozen third-tier Maryland winners
A federal government office assistant has joined the list of lucky Marylanders who bought 24 $50,000-winning Powerball tickets in the historic Jan. 13 drawing. An occasional player, the Silver Spring mom had only won small prizes prior to matching five out of six numbers in the $1.6 billion jackpot drawing.
Two days before the big jackpot was hit, she bought a few quick-pick tickets at the Cheese & Wine Shop on 2501 Ennalls Avenue in Silver Spring. The 64-year-old shared the numbers with her daughter, who watched the drawing that night. The Montgomery County mom didn’t realize that she was a winner until she began to check her text messages on her way to work. When she saw an excited message from her daughter, she knew she had won big.
The happy woman plans to spend some of her prize on bills and put the rest into her savings account.
The Jan. 13 drawing also created three $1 million state winners and one $100,000 winner.
