Silver Spring Woman Turns $5 Lottery Win into $100,000 Prize

Great Big BingoClaims top prize on Great Big Bingo scratch-off

A Silver Spring woman enjoyed a great big $100,000 surprise after reinvesting a $5 Maryland Lottery scratch-off win into the purchase of a Great Big Bingo scratch-off.

“When I get a small win, I’ll use it to purchase another ticket,” she explained. The Montgomery County woman bought a $2 scratch-off, which yielded a $5 prize. She then bought the lucky top-prize winning Great Big Bingo scratch-off at the Asian Supermarket at 2200 Veirs Mill Road in Rockville.

Rather than scratch off the instant ticket in the store, the lucky woman took it home. She was watching the “Dancing with the Stars” finale and cheering on 2014 season winner Meryl Davis and her partner when she decided to try her luck. Imagine her surprise when she revealed an ‘X’ on the ticket to win its $100,000 top prize!

The 55-year-old shared the news with her family and they checked the ticket repeatedly to verify her win. “I must have checked the ticket a hundred times,” she said. “It’s all just so exciting.”

Our winner works for a Rockville business that produces basketball-style recreation programs for the disabled. Her work, while rewarding, keeps her very busy. “I haven’t taken a vacation in about three years,” she said. That long-awaited trip is definitely in the planning stage now!
