Virginia man claims top prize on Cash Money Blowout game
A 20-year-old U.S. Army soldier with an urge to play Maryland Lottery scratch-offs got his wish – and a $50,000 win – with the $5 Cash Money Blowout instant ticket.
During a recent visit with his father, who lives in Pennsylvania, the soldier gave his dad some cash to buy scratch-offs the next time his father traveled through Maryland. His dad followed “orders” and bought scratch-offs at Gateway Market, Candyland & Liquors in Thurmont.
Back at his duty station in Virginia, the soldier got a visit from both his father and Maryland Lottery luck! His dad dropped off the instant tickets and, later that day, the soldier scratched them off and found his fortune in the form of a top-prize win on the Cash Money Blowout game.
“I didn’t believe it at first when I scratched it,” the winner said. “I thought I was half sleeping.”
The soldier immediately drove to his parents’ house to give the ticket to his mother to check. She did, and then passed it over to his father for a look. “It got really loud in the house after that,” the son said, looking at his mom with a smile.
The soldier wasn’t taking any chances with his winning ticket. He hid it in an individual game box for Xbox until he could come to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize. When asked which game he selected to protect his ticket, the happy winner revealed the game’s name: “Destiny.”
“Ironic, don’t you think?” our winner asked.
The soldier plans to pay off his car with his prize, share some of it with his family and save the rest of his winnings.
The Cash Money Blowout scratch-off still has four unclaimed $50,000 top prizes and eight $5,000 prizes. For selling the top-prize ticket, the retailer located at 14802 N. Franklinville Road in Frederick County earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
