Son Helps Mom Find $50,000 Scratch-off Win

Claims top prize on Double Your Dollars instant ticket

Double-Your-DollarsThanks, son! A lucky Baltimore mom has added her name to the list of Maryland Lottery scratch-off winners, thanks to her thoughtful son. The 69-year-old won $50,000 on a Double Your Dollars scratch-off that her son picked up for her as he often does.

“Whenever he goes out to buy tickets for himself, he always gets a few for me too,” said the winner. That’s just what he did last Monday when he visited Erdman Citgo on 4501 Erdman Avenue in Baltimore. He purchased some $5 games for himself and three $5 instant tickets for his mother. He took the tickets home to her, where she scratched them and enjoyed a big surprise.

“I have eye issues, so I wasn’t quite sure it was a winner,” said the mother of four. Her children happily confirmed her win!

The retired administrative assistant for the University of Maryland Graduate School is grateful for her son. “He is my only son and my right hand,” she said. And, even though he did not win on his scratch-offs, he was very happy about his mother’s good fortune. “She is my heart, my life,” he said, smiling. “She so deserves this.”

The winner was ill and hospitalized for a few days, which kept her from claiming the prize. She finally made her way to Lottery headquarters accompanied by her son and daughter-in-law. The lucky player plans to share some of her winnings with family members and bank the rest.

For selling the top-prize ticket in the game, Erdman Citgo will receive a bonus of $500 from the Lottery.
