Special Numbers Yield $50,000 Powerball Win for Baltimore Woman

Misses jackpot by just one number

A Baltimore city woman can thank her “special numbers” for a $50,000 Powerball win from Saturday night’s drawing.

The 40-year-old, who waits until the jackpots get high before buying tickets, enjoys playing both Powerball and Mega Millions. The Powerball jackpot’s roll to $321 million for the Saturday, March 3 drawing caught her attention! The lucky woman was out running errands so she stopped at 28th Street Citgo located at 2725 Sisson Street in Baltimore to buy her lucky ticket.

“I use my own numbers,” she said. “They are very significant to me.”

The mother of one adult child put her $4 ticket in her wallet and ran a few more errands before heading home for the night. She missed the drawing and didn’t check her ticket until the next morning. When our winner looked up the winning numbers on the Lottery website, she saw that many of her “special numbers” matched.

“I couldn’t believe I almost hit the jackpot,” said the big winner. “Wow, off by one number!”

The numbers drawn that night were 13, 17, 25, 36, 40 and Powerball 5. The lucky jackpot player matched all of the numbers except for one of the white balls, yielding a $50,000 win! She was the only Marylander to win that prize and one of 44 across the country to do so.

“I ran to wake up my daughter, so she could double check it for me,” said the winner. “She scanned the ticket and I couldn’t believe it really showed $50,000.”

An employee at a local hospital, the lucky lady kept her ticket with her until she could cash it at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. She plans to fix her car with the winnings and help her daughter financially. She also plans to play Powerball again, which rolled to $348 million for the Wednesday, March 7 drawing.
