207-Hit-It-Big-ITVM_P1-goldAn Abingdon woman can always count on getting Maryland Lottery scratch-offs in her Christmas stocking from her husband of 38 years. What the 57-year-old doesn’t count on, however, is that her holiday instant tickets will win big and that’s why the $10,000 prize she revealed on a Hit it Big scratch-off this year gave her the shock of her life.

“He’s been buying me scratch-off tickets for about15 years and we’d normally win enough to go out to dinner with our son,” she said. “I just couldn’t believe that the ticket was saying I won $10,000.”

The lucky Harford County couple told Lottery officials that the win on the $20 scratch-off couldn’t have come at a better time. Their son is getting married and the prize will go toward the wedding.

“I started buying my wife scratch-offs each year because I know it’s something fun for her and our son to do on Christmas morning,” said the winner’s husband. “It’s become sort of a tradition in our household and now that we’ve won big like this, it makes it even more special that the money is going toward our son’s wedding.”

He found the lucky Hit it Big scratch-off at Mans Discount Liquors located at 6900 Holabird Avenue in Baltimore. The popular ticket still has a $1 million top prize remaining along with one $50,000 prize and 13 more $10,000 prizes.
