Store Employee’s Scratch-off Pick Gives ‘Lucky Mama’ a $50,000 Prize

“Lucky Mama” (center) of Beltsville and her friends celebrate her $50,000 scratch-off win at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Finds big win with Gold Rush X100 game

A 29-year-old Beltsville woman who often lets store clerks select scratch-offs for her won the biggest Lottery prize of her life with a Gold Rush X100 instant ticket.

The mother of one, who has a second child due in late winter, was with friends at Triangle Beer, Wine & Convenience in Beltsville when Lottery luck arrived. The Prince George’s County resident asked the clerk to give her a $20 scratch-off. The clerk’s lucky selection: a Gold Rush X100 instant ticket. She scratched off the game in the store, located at 10400 Rhode Island Avenue, and quickly discovered her $50,000 win. She and her friends immediately began celebrating.

“We were so happy,” she said. “I can’t believe I won. I was jumping up and down like a kid.”

“Lucky Mama” plays scratch-offs regularly and typically asks clerks to pick out their choice of a $2, $5 or $20 game. Her top prize was $50 before this big win. The childcare provider plans to pay bills with her windfall and put the rest of the money away to help with her growing family’s expenses.

The Gold Rush X100 scratch-off is a member of the Gold Rush family of games that went on sale in May. There are still five unclaimed $1 million prizes on the $20 ticket, seven more $50,000 prizes and hundreds of thousands of other prizes ranging from $20 to $10,000. Other games in this fun family are the $1 Gold Rush X5, $2 Gold Rush X10, $5 Gold Rush X20 and $10 Gold Rush X50 scratch-offs.
