Stormy Day Floods Scratch-off Player with Cash

Rain = winning scratch-offs for “Hercules,” who found his second big scratch-off win on a stormy day.

Baltimore man wins top prize on 50x the Cash scratch-off

When it rains, it pours Lottery luck for a refrigeration mechanic from Baltimore. The scratch-off fan wanted oatmeal for breakfast so he dashed through the storm into his local Wawa to purchase his food. While there, he decided to grab a 50x The Cash scratch-off that hid a $100,000 top prize in the very last row of numbers.

“Both of my big wins have happened on days it was raining,” said the 49-year-old, who dubbed himself “Hercules” for his Lottery winner photo. “I need to rethink my playing days, but one thing for sure, I am leaving here and going to purchase a Powerball ticket because it is raining.”

“Hercules” had finished his job assignments for the day when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He planned to spend the afternoon enjoying his win with friends. The happy winner said he will pay off bills with his prize and save the rest for another rainy day. “Good things happen to me in the rain!”

Also a winner is his lucky retailer. For selling a top-prize ticket in the $10 game, Wawa #598 located at 2845 Rolling Road in Baltimore earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

The 50x The Cash instant ticket made its debut in January and still has two unclaimed $100,000 top prizes. Players can also hunt for five unclaimed $50,000 prizes, 11 $10,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000. A member of the Lottery’s multiplier family of scratch-off games, the 50x The Cash game is joined by 5x The Cash, 10x The Cash, 20x The Cash and 100x The Cash scratch-offs.
