Wins $50,000 Triple Green Crossword Top Prize
A 59-year-old Severna Park woman felt more than just lucky when she came to Lottery headquarters today to claim a $50,000 prize. She felt that her prayers had finally come to fruition. The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, will now be able to save her home from foreclosure.
The lucky winner, who works as a convenience store distribution sales representative, told Lottery officials that she and her boyfriend of 20 years have been struggling with bills since he lost his job in the construction field last year. “We are really close to losing our home and have been praying constantly that we would somehow come into money,” she said. Her lucky day came in the form of a top prize from the $5 Triple Green Crossword scratch-off.
The mother-of-five and grandmother-of-seven told Lottery officials that she spends a lot of time on the road for work and enjoys playing crossword-style scratch-offs. “I enjoy playing them and I’ve seen people win,” she said. “Until today, though, I’ve only won smaller prizes. I was beginning to feel like I was always the bridesmaid, never the bride”. She said that she scratched the ticket after stopping into an Eastern Shore store for a lunch break and called her boyfriend in a state of shock. “I am finally the ‘bride!’” she said happily.
While she has yet to make decisions on future purchases or investments, she has one thing on her mind for the immediate future: to make her mortgage payments current. “It’s been a long time since I’ve done something for myself,” she added. “Maybe I’ll treat myself to a manicure and a haircut too. That will be icing on the cake!”
The winning ticket was sold at the Stevensville Citgo in Stevensville.
