Woman claims second-tier prize on $10 scratch-off
A Bel Air career changer who started a full-time Nursing degree program after Labor Day is still enjoying a whopper of a last-minute back-to-school surprise. She’s a $10,000 Maryland Lottery winner!
Lottery luck came to Christina Clark of Harford County on the Thursday before the busy Labor Day weekend. The loyal Lottery player bought four Jackpot! scratch-offs while shopping at her Bel Air Safeway store. Thank goodness she needed ingredients to make a lemon dessert for her grandmother’s 85th birthday party that weekend!
She frequents the grocery several times a week and often buys scratch-offs there. “They keep their (scratch-off) machine well stocked all the time,” she said. A two-time Lottery winner during 20-plus years of playing, Christina won $10,000 in 2011 on a scratch-off and $5,000 a decade or so ago playing Pick 4.
Typically, the 43-year-old woman will scratch off her tickets at home in the mornings while enjoying a cup of coffee. Because the mother of two knew how busy the Labor Day weekend would be, she changed her routine and scratched off the tickets at home that night. “The third one was the winner,” she said.
She hid the ticket in a drawer for the weekend and shared the exciting news with her boyfriend, saying, “This is our trip money!” Her Lottery prize will enable Christina to return to Charleston, South Carolina this winter for a birthday getaway to continue exploring that city. If all goes well, she hopes to relocate there in 2016 when her daughter graduates from high school. In 2016 Christina and her son, who is currently a student at New York University, will also graduate.
All six $100,000 top prizes on the Jackpot! scratch-off and 16 more $10,000 winning tickets are awaiting discovery at Maryland Lottery retailers. Want to try your luck at her favorite retailer? The Safeway #1652 is at 225-0 Brier Hill Drive in Bel Air.
