Wins $50,000 on Super Gems Scratch-Off
The 20-year-old Montgomery County woman had no plans of purchasing a scratch-off ticket last week. In fact, the young woman rarely ever bought scratch-offs. After stopping for a drink, she decided to purchase a $5 Super Gems ticket on a whim after receiving disappointing news from her school’s financial aid department. Her last minute Super Gems splurge resulted in a $50,000 win.
At first, the young woman had a bit of buyer’s remorse. “I would normally never spend $5 on something like this,” she said shaking her head. “I’m always overly frugal, but I said, ‘what the heck’, bought the ticket and the rest is history.”
Anxious to check the ticket, she scratched it on her bus ride home and to her surprise saw something completely surprising. The pre-nursing student had uncovered $50,000 worth of matching numbers. “After I added everything up, I just kept staring at the ticket,” she said. In her hands she held several semesters’ worth of tuition.
Right now, she plans to put a down payment on her car and pay for the remainder of her schooling. “This will really help me with tuition and bills; I still can’t believe this happened.” The winning ticket was purchased at 7-11 #22921 in Silver Spring.
