Claims $50,000 top prize on Power 5s scratch-off
A 64-year-old Taneytown man on his work break ducked into Stup’s Market in Adamstown to get out of the rain and wound up $50,000 richer. He went in to grab snacks and, while there, purchased some Maryland Lottery scratch-off games.
“I bought three $1 games and won $4,” said the machine mechanic. “So, I added a buck to it and got a $5 Power 5s ticket.” He scratched that game off as he walked back to work.
The Carroll County resident likes to scratch off one side of the ticket to reveal any matching symbols before scratching the other side to see what, if anything, he won. With the Power 5s game, if you reveal a “5” symbol, you automatically win that prize. The lucky player had ten of the “5” symbols. When he revealed the first prize amount, he saw a five and thought it was $50.
“Then I kept scratching and I saw it was $5,000,” said the winner, smiling. “I thought ‘No Way’ as I saw another $5,000 and another $5,000!” His winnings totaled $50,000.
The loyal player said he had to sit in his car to collect his thoughts and convince himself of the win before returning to work. The father of two adult children and granddad of two grandchildren wasted no time claiming his prize only hours after he won!
The winner plans to use the prize to purchase new tires and replacement windows for his home. He’s a big Lottery fan and also plans to continue to play scratch-offs in hopes of finding another big prize.
Also winning big is the Frederick County retailer that sold the winning ticket. Stup’s Market located at 5550 Mountville Road in Adamstown will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the top-prize scratch-off in the game. There are plenty of prizes remaining on the Power 5s instant ticket, including five more $50,000 prizes, eight $5,000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $5 to $1,000.
