Tax-Free $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Surprise

Joseph Hinton - Bonus Match 5

A happy Joseph Hinton shows off his tax-free Bonus Match 5 win.

Baltimore man takes home $50,000 tax-free prize

Much has changed since Joseph Hinton of Baltimore won his first $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize back in the late 90s. Back then, winners still went to Reisterstown Road Plaza to claim a prize and could walk away with a check in hand. Last Friday, Hinton found himself the winner of another $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize, but had to come down to the Montgomery Park building. Thanks to the Bonus Match 5 Taxes Free Promotion, the Maryland Lottery will pay the estimated state and federal taxes this time around.

When Hinton took his ticket back to the retailer to have it checked, the scanner instructed him to go to Lottery headquarters. The Baltimore man found himself wondering how much his ticket was actually worth. “I just kept thinking about the odds of winning again. I just thought that there was no way that could happen,” he said shaking his head.

It was only when Hinton turned his ticket into Lottery officials in the Baltimore office that he realized his ticket was worth an even $50,000. “I had no clue about the tax-free promotion,” he said. “It’s still hard to believe I’ve been able to win again.”

The retired U.S. Marshall has no immediate plans for his money, but looks forward to helping those around him. The ticket was purchased at Liberty Food Market at 3905 Liberty Heights Avenue in Baltimore City.
