Loyal Lottery player uses list of favorite numbers to win $18,250

A Temple Hills resident who said he wins “so often the Maryland Lottery feels like family” is planning to treat his two children to a trip to Disney World after winning $18,250 playing Racetrax, the computer-animated horse-racing game.

The winner, nicknamed “Winning Dad,” said he attributes his good fortune more to God than luck after claiming his big Racetrax prize. But he also has a system which, for him, has proven to be quite lucky.

“I have a list of numbers that I play, where I use the bigger numbers and play Trifecta Boxes,” he said.

In Racetrax, the horses are numbered 1 through 12 and results are weighted. When the higher-numbered horses finish in the top four, the prizes to players who bet on those horses are larger.

On May 25, the Prince George’s County resident visited his favorite Lottery retailer, Best One Food Mart at 6306 Addison Road in Capitol Heights. Among the list of numbers he played was a 9-10-12 Trifecta. When the horses finished in that order, he won $18,520.

“I’ve won $5,000 before, $3,000, $2,100, but never won as big as this,” he said. “I was surprised.”

Aside from a Disney vacation, the lucky winner doesn’t have any other special plans for spending his prize. He enjoys playing different Lottery games and plans to keep playing in hopes of one day landing a jackpot prize.

Best One Food Mart is a winner as well. For selling a winning Racetrax ticket worth at least $10,000, the store will receive a bonus of $185.20 from the Maryland Lottery – equal to 1 percent of the prize value.
