A Temple Hills woman who plays Maryland Lottery jackpot games on occasion found Powerball success with a set of special numbers in the Feb. 13 drawing. The 66-year-old, who is a fan of both Mega Millions and Powerball, was shocked to win a $50,000 Powerball prize.
The winner was out running errands in Temple Hills last Wednesday when she decided to stop in Barnabas Liquors located at 4620 St. Barnabus Road to purchase a Powerball ticket. She played special numbers on one line and let the terminal quick pick numbers on the second line of the $4 ticket. After securing the ticket in her purse, she headed home and didn’t checked the drawing results until days later.
“I was in disbelief after checking my numbers,” said the retired federal government employee. “I had to look over and over again to be sure.”
She waited until certain about her Powerball success to share the news with her husband, who accompanied her to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the prize.
The winning numbers for the drawing were 2, 8, 14, 24 and 69; the Power Ball was 26. The mother and grandmother matched four of the white balls and the Powerball with her special numbers to win the $50,000 prize. She plans to use the winnings for bills, home improvements and maybe a trip.
