The Week in Winners: Mega Millions, Powerball Jackpots Roll On; Five Scratch-off Players Pocket Six-Figure Prizes

Across Maryland, players won or claimed $29.4 million during week ending Jan. 17

With the combined jackpots of Mega Millions and Powerball rolling to nearly $1.6 billion, seven players in Maryland won big prizes in the two games last week. Meanwhile, five scratch-off players claimed six-figure prizes, including a $500,000 winner on a ticket sold in Glen Burnie.

The other four big scratch-off prizes were at the $100,000 level, with the lucky tickets purchased in Baltimore, Cumberland, Oxon Hill and Rockville.

As the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots continued to grow, Powerball tickets worth $50,000 were sold in Belcamp, Ellicott City, Germantown and Westminster. Mega Millions players purchased tickets worth $10,000 in Bryans Road, Silver Spring and Timonium. As of Jan. 19, none of those Mega Millions and Powerball prizes had been claimed.

The estimated annuity jackpot for the next Mega Millions drawing tonight (Jan. 19) is $865 million, while the estimated Powerball jackpot for the Jan. 20 drawing is $730 million.

In all, Lottery players won or claimed more than $29.4 million in the seven days ending Jan. 17, including 31 tickets worth $10,000 or more that were either sold or claimed during that span.

Winners of prizes larger than $25,000 must redeem their tickets at the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only.

All Lottery retailers are authorized to cash winning tickets up to $600, and approximately 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) retailers are authorized to cash tickets valued up to $5,000. Prizes up to and including $25,000 can be claimed at any of Maryland’s six casinos with no appointment necessary. More information is available on the How To Claim page of mdlottery.com.
