Gold Rush X50 scratch-off delivers top-prize nugget
A Nottingham resident with previous luck prospecting for Maryland Lottery prizes has struck gold again. This time, the construction worker swung his pick at a $10 Gold Rush X50 scratch-off and won a $100,000 prize.
The lucky prospector found his Gold Rush X50 top prize while driving between work sites. The Lottery regular has his favorite stores, but said his luckiest spots are often the places he stops at randomly while shuttling to the next work location.
The 53-year-old discovered the win shortly after purchasing the instant ticket on Monday, when he revealed a symbol showing a stack of cash. He was surprised when the prize below the symbol was the $100,000 prize. After discovering his big win, the hard-working player tucked the scratch-off away and went back to work.
This isn’t the first time in the Lottery Winner’s Circle for the lucky man. His $100,000 prize comes nearly a decade after a pair of top-prize wins. Those prizes earned him a bit of notoriety and he told Lottery officials that people often ask if he has a technique for finding lucky scratch-offs.
“I just tell them it’s dumb luck, really,” said the winner. “I also tell them not to play with money you can’t afford to lose.”
The Baltimore County resident plans to use the windfall to pay down debts and boost his savings account.
The lucky prospector purchased his winning instant ticket at Dash In #18322 located at 9075 Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City. For selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Howard County retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
The $10 Gold Rush X50 scratch-off launched with a family of Gold Rush instant tickets in May. The Gold Rush X50 game still has thousands of unclaimed prizes including two more $100,000 top prizes and five $50,000 prizes.
