Lucky player finds top-prize win on Gold Rush X20 scratch-off
An 81-year-old Timonium man can thank his car for a big scratch-off win on Sunday. Had he not needed to fuel up his automobile, he would not have purchased two Gold Rush X20 scratch-offs and won $50,000!
The lucky player stopped at his neighborhood BP gas station to fill up his tank and stopped in to play a couple of scratch-off games. He went right to his current favorites — the Gold Rush Family of Games. He normally buys the $10 or $20 instant tickets in the family but tried his luck with two $5 Gold Rush X20 scratch-offs. He played them at the Padonia BP station in Lutherville and knew immediately what he had won.
“The first one was not a winner, but that second ticket sure was,” said the retired U.S. Social Security Administration employee. “I still took it to the attendant to confirm it for me.”
The attendant handed the father of two adult children, who is also a grandfather of three, a printed confirmation of his $50,000 prize. The big winner took the slip of paper and immediately went home to share the news with his wife. She is sometimes a skeptic about his Lottery luck.
“I have to admit, I was stunned,” said the winner’s wife as the pair shared the story of the lucky purchase while in the Lottery Winner’s Circle. “I mean, it’s pretty amazing.”
The Baltimore County resident said he plans to celebrate the win with his wife with a special gift and dinner. He also will take a portion of the prize to pay off bills.
Also celebrating his Lottery luck is the Baltimore County retailer that sold the winning instant ticket. Padonia BP located at 2446 York Road in Lutherville earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
