Claims $30,000 prize on World Championship Poker game

Bruce Kohlway just couldn’t understand his wife’s fascination with Maryland Lottery scratch-offs – until he got her $30,000 phone call.

The Glen Burnie man plays Powerball and Mega Millions regularly while his wife is a huge fan of the Lottery’s $2 and $3 scratch-offs. He no longer doubts that scratch-offs pay out substantial prizes. The father of two became a believer when his wife called to say she’d won $30,000 on a World Championship Poker scratch-off!

The winning ticket that changed his thinking was hiding out at the Dash In store in Severn. His wife of 30 years told Bruce later that she felt drawn to buy this particular scratch-off. In fact, her husband recalls hearing her say “the ticket was calling me!” The 54-year-old is sure glad she answered its call and took it home.

The lucky couple has not shared news of the win with anyone. They plan to use the prize to pay off credit card debt and buy a car for their youngest child. The remainder of the winnings will go toward holiday shopping.

The lucky Anne Arundel County retailer, located at 7845 Quarterfield Road, will receive a $300 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize scratch-off. There are still two top prizes and four $1,000 prizes remaining on the $3 game.
