“Touchdown Joe” of Silver Spring won a $100,000 top prize playing the Ravens X5 scratch-off.
Montgomery County man claims first top prize in Ravens X5 game
A Silver Spring man is celebrating a bit of end-zone glory this week after making a touchdown-worthy $100,000 top-prize win on a Ravens X5 scratch-off.
The 57-year-old stationary engineer has discovered the first top prize in the $5 game. The lucky man’s affinity for football, new scratch-offs and second-chance prizes were contributing factors in his windfall.
The Montgomery County resident, who dubbed himself “Touchdown Joe,” said he and his wife were playing a few scratch-offs at an Annapolis Wawa when something unusual happened. He uncovered a football emblem on the bottom of his Ravens X5 scratch-off. The prize he revealed beneath the lucky symbol was one of the game’s seven top prizes.
“I was in shock,” he said. “I just couldn’t believe it.”
After they confirmed the win, the happy couple rushed home to put their lucky instant ticket somewhere safe. They also shared news of their Lottery luck with their children.
“Touchdown Joe” says he plans to use a portion of his prize for home repairs. He added that he expects to save the bulk of the winnings for his children and their future. One of his children started college this year.
