Wins $100,000 playing Your Fortune scratch-off
Life has certainly thrown a few curve balls to a 60-year-old Gaithersburg man and his family. Just five years ago, he was involved in a bad accident that cost a lot of money. A series of events led to the family having to relocate.
“Yesterday, as I sat in my car, I looked up at the sky and prayed for a miracle,” said the Montgomery County resident. That prayer came true for the tow truck driver of nearly 10 years. A Your Fortune scratch-off gave them a $100,000 top prize that will let them – among other things – pay off their bills and take a family vacation.
He has his wife of 30 years to thank for buying the winning scratch-off. She stopped at the Walnut Hill Exxon in Gaithersburg to fuel up their vehicle and bought a $10 instant ticket, too.
“When I got home, I started scratching the ticket for him,” she said. “I noticed that it looked like he may have won something, so that’s when I gave him the ticket to finish. We were shocked to see how much we had won.”
The lucky couple said they hope this is the year their luck turns around. “I feel like winning this $100,000 prize is the beginning of better times for me and my family,” said the loyal player.
Besides paying off their bills, the winner said he would probably treat his family and two granddaughters to a much-needed vacation to Niagara Falls. “We feel blessed,” he said. “We needed this money and our prayers were answered. This is such a blessing.”
His Lottery retailer is also a winner. For selling a top-prize scratch-off in the game, Walnut Hill Exxon located at 16425 S. Frederick Road in Gaithersburg will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
The Your Fortune scratch-off went on sale last fall and still has four more unclaimed $100,000 top prizes and eight $10,000 prizes, along with thousands of others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
